Founded in 1974 and based in New York City, AALDEF is a national organization that partners with Asian American communities across the country to drive change, using litigation, advocacy, education, and organizing.
Since its founding, AALDEF has been on the frontlines of defending and advancing the rights of Asian American communities—from advocating for reparations for Japanese Americans, to challenging post-9/11 attacks on Muslim communities, to confronting anti-Asian violence during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our model for change is centered on community lawyering and uplifting the voices and needs of local Asian American communities to drive progress at the local, regional and national level. Our team of lawyers and advocates believe in the using the law as a tool for change—and in the power of Asian American communities to lead that change. Whether in courtrooms, in the halls of governments, or in the streets, AALDEF is building a future where Asian Americans and all communities can thrive.
